why did Souk go with this company rather than Living Social or Groupon? We consumers can only join so many of these programs....

Souk is good. It seemed like they had a couple rough patches of menu/ownership/management changes. I went there the other night with some beause some friends wanted to and was worried what "Souk" I'd find. It was nice to find it in the same condition it was a couple months ago and the food was very good. I even branched out from the standby tapas and got the chicken with lemons. I feel like it is tough to make (non fried) chiken taste very good. But this was great. They could use a better beer selection though. But I will thank them because I used the opportunity to have regular Sam Adam for the first time in like 10 years. Much better than I remember. Although, ten years ago was my miller lite and busch phase

Is Souk open again? I promise I'm not trying to give them a hard time -- I've really liked their food. But we've tried to go there a zillion times over the last three months and they're *always* closed.

I went after they first opened and thought it was OK, not great but nothing was bad either. I've been back twice recently and thought it was much better. The chicken with lemons was a standout.

Souk Mark I was a Lebanese restaurant...in the past 6 months it has new ownership, and entirely new staff, and now serves exclusively Moroccan style food. It's gone from being more of a take out with seating to being a somewhat fancier sit-down restaurant with a GREAT wine selection. Like the Argonaut, it seems to have gone a bit more upscale in it's transformation, at the loss of yet another cheap(ish) takeout option. But the food is good. I agree with the poster about the need for a more diverse/interesting beer selection.

Agree with Tom A. I'm not joining "Dealfind" to get this. Jeez.

Souk did a deal with Living Social back in March. I guess ownership has changed since? I was not impressed on my first visit, but maybe it's worth a return.

Souk has changed ownership. I will also say that many places on H Street have offered bargains through multiple sites.

Yeah, we bought a Groupon with Souk back in the spring. Since then we've tried to go there maybe six or seven times, and they've always been closed.
Nov 3, 2011, 11:38:00 PM
Souk was closed because a truck hit the back of their dining room and knocked a big hole in the wall.
You can write the story yourself: settling with various insurance companies, getting DC permits, bank loans for construction right after having changed ownership, etc.
Souk looks great and has been getting very good reviews. It's nice to have them back in business.
