WP: Edens Moves Capital City Diner to Florida Market

The Washington Post reports the awesome news that the diner formerly known as the Capital City Diner has been acquired by the developer Edens that is working in the Florida Market/Union Market/Capital City Market area. I had actually heard a rumor to this effect recently, and I'm thrilled to see that it was true. They are not unveiling any exact plans for the diner, but will somehow incorporate it into the larger vision of Union Market as a culinary destination.

Great news!
I was guessing that could be its (final?) resting place. Sad that it didn't work out for Matt, but I'm looking forward to visiting the new location.

I would visit the new location...but I hear an IHOP is opening in the Marriott over there.
Just kidding :) Much success wished for the new location.

I hope they place it on FLA ave. I feel that is a much better location, closer to Galludet, on the way back to NW for the folks going out on H street, plus FLA ave gets more traffic then Benning ever did. Hurray!

Glad it is staying in the neighborhood but what is the timetable on Union Market? A few years?

Whoever fed PoP that rumor of the diner becoming a jewish deli/asian fusion place with a rooftop deck deserves a high five.
Scuttlebutt!

Wow, even CLOSER to where I live. Coolness. Kudos to Matt for trying to keep it nearby.
This is a good sign that Edens is thinking creatively about the Florida Market. I'm hoping for something incorporating some elements of these:

Pretty soon, you won't recognize the place...

Promise?

Eh, I don't know. I love the diner and appreciate all the hard work Matt and his previous partner put in to setting it up, but that is prime real estate there, right near the metro. I think they should keep the original buildings there but also build tall buildings on the empty lots since it is so transit friendly. Maybe put the diner on top of a large new building?

When I saw it rolling off Florida and onto 6th at around 1:30 last night, I figured it was headed for the interstate and out of our lives forever. What a wonderful turn of events!

Does this mean we'll be able to see that photo in perpetuity?

Arbus,
I have some others, but it will likely be in rotation until I snap some new ones.
