Awesome. Hope for good news on the corner. Off-topic (but across the street): any word about the pizza place at 14th and H? Six weeks ago or so they took down the plywood on the first floor. It looks like the space is finished (bar, table, chairs, etc.) but nothing seems to be going on.

No, I just helped them set up an online presence. It was a soul food that had been on H Street for a long time, but caught people's attention when it changed ownership several years ago. Unfortunately, one of the owners was murdered in Del Ray and it closed down after that.

Something is going on at Viggy's liquor store on 15th and Isherwood. Looks like they've gutted the place and actively working on the interior.

Well, if we're just asking random questions, anybody know why Rose's Dream is moving 2 buildings over? Seems like they've got a lot of investment in the current building, with the roof deck and all. Is the Caribbean place moving too?

I can't remember where I saw that, and of course now I can't find anything about it online. Maybe it was on their window? I know I read it somewhere, and it gave a new address a couple of doors down. Or maybe it was just a really, really vivid dream...

As I understand it, the CVS property is owned by a developer, so CVS will probably get the boot at some point. I haven't heard of any definite plans for anything yet, though.

Rose's Dream was closed on Saturday night, which I thought was odd, so maybe it is moving.

I believe Rose's Dream is moving two doors down to 1378 H ST and will be called Rose's Dejavu.

We walked by Rose's last night and then noticed a permit in a window two buildings down that listed Rose's Dream as the establishment. We wondered the same thing- are they moving? Why?

Rose's Dream Theory:
It was not a ground floor place, right? Maybe they want a ground floor spot. It is probably better for business. If they own their old building, their investment isnt lost. They can rent or cash out.

Wow - thanks for sharing the story on Delta Towers, Anon 8:12 AM. I recall some talk a few years back of them wanting to expand, but nothing came of it. Although I don't necessarily think that more senior housing is the best use of that land, it's obviously not my land to weigh in on.

Yes, it is our tax dollars at work on the Sisters development.
If the goal is housing as many seniors as possible the best course would be to sell that land and use the proceeds to fund probably three times as many seniors in a less trendy less expensive area.
The value in that parcel is the land.
If our goal is to artificially preserve housing for a select few seniors in a gentrifying area instead of providing the most housing for the most people, then that's another story.
But, yes, it is almost certainly our tax dollars being discussed here. At probably both the federal and local level.

I don't have a problem with providing housing to neighborhood seniors being displaced to keep them in the neighborhood. I can only hope that when I am old and retired, the same consideration will be extended to me.

Does seem like a poor use of this land if it is just senior only dedicated housing. Perhaps something that has some senior housing, plus market rate-apts, and ground floor retail opportunities would be more sustainable. I prefer my tax $ be used more efficiently than just doling out dollars for subsidized housing.

When people say "my tax dollars", they seem to forget about the other people who pay taxes who completely disagree with them. Since my tax dollars are being used as well, I give this the thumbs up and I'll see you in the voting booth.

I've got no problem with that either. But I would note that the Potomac Gardens complex in SE is "senior housing" as well. Of course, the people shooting the place up each week are young folks.
So subsidized public "senior housing" is not necessarily as anodyne as it sounds on paper.

My understanding is that Potomac Gardens has 2 and 3 BR units. That seems odd for low income senior housing. I also see references to people "growing up" there.
